Shawn L. Smith

Shawn L. Smith is a painter, assemblagist, and filmmaker from all over currently living in Montana. In each medium, she expresses her own dark mythology, symbolized by, among other things, animals, fruit trees, natural disasters, and zombie ballerinas. She features found objects and re-wired electronic elements in her assemblages, creating lighted, moving stories told in sculpture. And her latest stop-motion film, starring a heartbroken vintage jointed swan, was made for and accompanies the music of the indie rock band Pyramid. Mr. Chalk is one of her many alter-egos, and he speaks in science.

Shawn's work has been shown with the Fay Gold Gallery in Atlanta, the Atlanta Arts Festival, the Suil Gallery in Athens, GA, and Brooklyn's Lilypad.
